Moments after the final out of the Garveys 7 to 3 loss to the reigning champion Stank Hams at Garvey Park, Steve Garvey closed the books on a blockbuster trade he had been working on since the fifth inning of game 4. The blockbuster deal sends 7 former Garveys players to 3 different teams in the PinchHitter League. “I was looking at the lines for our season so far” said Steve “and I could see some weak spots and I said to myself ‘Steve, if you want to beat the Hams, I mean really give them a whopping, you need an all-star shortstop, and probably another quality starter, and probably another reliever’. So that’s what I went after. I made a few calls and bodda bing bodda boom the Garveys are now really ready to take down the Hams.”
“The Hams are basically the reason we didn’t take the trophy last season, that was a tough loss, one run, just one run. Palka sent us packing. But not this season” finished Garvey. The trade sent shortstop Tim Anderson, outfielders Dexter Fowler and Brian Goodwin, starter Zach Davies, and relievers Conley, Lynn, and Ramirez to three different PinchHitter League teams in exchange for MVP shortstop Francisco Lindor, reliable starter Jalen Beeks, and reliever phenom Kirby Yates. “Who does that?” said BatBreaker League spokesman Duster Chefson. “Who can swing a deal like that after game 4? That’s unheard of!” continued Chefson. “Last year I thought that maybe Garvey was hanging up his spikes, but now it’s like ‘whoa’ this guy is a genius!” finished Chefson.
The players moving out of the PinchHitterLeague and up to BatBreaker appear to be excited for the moves. “I mean, they had us playing in stocking caps instead of baseball hats” groaned Lindor “I’m really, really grateful for Steve making this trade man, I getta wear a normal hat and play some real ball again!”.
The Garveys face the Stank Hams again in games 11 and 12 of Season 8.
