Garvey Pitchers De-Claw Kitties To Win Trip to Series

Garveys LF Cain slides to catch a liner down the line in the 5th to end the inning

Manager Steve Garvey wasted no time in going to the pen when pulling top starter Trevor Richards after 2 innings after allowing only 2 hits and no runs.  While many questioned his move as Richards had a stellar season posting a 3.17 ERA and throwing more innings than any other Garveys pitcher.  This decision and all of Garveys pitching decisions paid off as the bullpen only allowed only 2 runs to the potent Kitties lineup over the next seven frames while striking out six.

Lorenzo Cain was the other big story for the Garveys.  Batting third and playing left field (neither of which he had done in Season 8) Cain went 3 for 5 with a homerun and a triple and 4 RBIs.  His stellar defense also helped Yates out of a jam in the top of the 5th inning.  With 2 out and 2 on, Laureano laced a liner down the line in left field that looked like it would land and easily score 2 until Cain made an amazing diving play.  Cain’s 3-run triple broke open the game in the bottom of the frame.

The Garveys meet the Jerk Fuzzballs in Jerk Stadium for Game 1 of the BatBreaker Series.  This is a rematch of the Season 6 Series.  Game 1 will feature Urena for the Fuzzballs against strikeout leader Allard for the Garveys.
